War III & the New World Order
"Nation
will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,"
Matthew
24:7

Doomsday
Clock 2.5 Minutes to Midnight
It is
amazing that Israel--about the size of New Jersey, with slightly more than one-tenth of one percent of the global population--is at the
center of global controversy. Of course, those who know prophecy
understand that the Bible forewarned this would happen in the last days. No matter how much
effort global leaders put into achieving “peace in the Middle East”, it
never seems to happen, and controversy is posed to escalate to a dangerous heightened
level at any given moment.
When
the Middle East erupts, it could propel us into World War III. This
clash of the kingdoms and nations (Matthew
24:7) could begin with any number of scenarios: for instance, Islamic
religious backlash--the Jerusalem earthquake and Temple Mount collapse, the sunni vs. shia
/ Arab vs. Persian power-struggle, a conflict between Israel and her surrounding
enemies (Syria, Palestinians, Egypt, Jordan, etc.). As one of the first
prophetic events in Daniel 8, there will be a US-European-Israeli battering of Iran
and other geopolitical conflicts
over nations and power, which could summons aggressive Russian
responses against NATO and the U.S., and quite likely thermonuclear war. On
the other hand, it could be a totally
unforeseen incident, that causes a flare-up that cannot be contained and
escalates to thermo-nuclear war.
As
for the prophetic warnings, a close look at Daniel 7 indicates that three nations are particularly vulnerable to
a Russian Bear attack (horns/ribs-Daniel
7:5,8) on the Mediterranean coastline--(i.e., Greece, Italy, Spain,
Portugal), but the Scriptures are not explicit and we cannot know exactly
which three will be uprooted. How do we know the general
area? Prophecy
gives the direction of the growing power--the "little horn"
[little nation--the Vatican], which Daniel wrote "started small but
grew in power to the south [i.e. Italy, Spain, Portugal] and to
the east
[Greece] and toward the Beautiful Land" [Israel] (Daniel
8:9).
It's interesting to note that these southern European nations are facing
newsworthy financial stress and
internal turmoil, and Russia may consider them wounded and vulnerable to an attack. Out of this holocaust will emerge the power-base of
the Man of sin, known as Antichrist.
As for the
West in Bible prophecy, America's Middle-East victories look to be
short-lived, as the U.S. will likely experience war, financial collapse and
other stresses/losses, and her fall from
superpower status will be quick and decisive. But end-time destruction is not
isolated; no home will be left unaffected. All mankind will experience calamity and fear that the end of
the age has arrived; however, it will only be the "beginnings of
sorrows," (Matthew
24:8).
Jesus said, “Watch
out that no one deceives you. For many will come
in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it
that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to
come. Nation will rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various
places. All these are the beginning of birth pains," Matthew 24:4-8.
The Doomsday
Clock has served as a symbol of World War III close calls since
the Truman
Doctrine went into effect in 1947. The Truman
Doctrine was a policy set forth by U.S. President Harry
Truman in a speech on March 12, 1947, stating that the U.S. would
support Greece
and Turkey
with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet
sphere.
Historians often consider it as the start of the Cold
War. The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face, maintained by the
board of directors of the Bulletin
of the Atomic Scientists at the University
of Chicago. The closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the world
is estimated to be to global disaster; and, in early 2017 the clock was
moved up to just 2.5 minutes before midnight.
Then, on January 23, 2020, the Clock was moved further to 100 seconds (1
minute 40 seconds) before midnight, meaning that the Clock's status today
is the closest to midnight since the Clock's start in 1947. The Bulletin'
executive chairman, Jerry
Brown, said "the dangerous rivalry and hostility among the
superpowers increases the likelihood of nuclear blunder".[5]
The nuclear age
dawned in the 1940s when scientists learned how to release the energy
stored within the atom. Immediately, they thought of two potential
uses—an unparalleled weapon and a new energy source. The United States
built the first atomic bombs during World War II, which they used on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Within two decades, Britain, the
Soviet Union, China, and France had also established nuclear weapon
programs. Since then, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea have built
nuclear weapons as well.
For most of the
Cold War, overt hostility between the United States and Soviet Union,
coupled with their enormous nuclear arsenals, defined the nuclear threat.
The U.S. arsenal peaked at about 30,000 warheads in the mid-1960s and the
Soviet arsenal at 40,000 warheads in the 1980s, dwarfing all other nuclear
weapon states. The scenario for nuclear holocaust was simple: Heightened
tensions between the two jittery superpowers would lead to an all-out
nuclear exchange. Today, the risk also remains for an accidental or
inadvertent nuclear exchange between the United States, her European
allies and Russia, with nuclear countries maintaining well over 1,000
warheads on high alert, ready to launch within tens of minutes.
The truth of the matter is,
the world is stocked with
bio-weapons, nuclear bombs and military machinery the likes of which
mankind could not have imagined just 100 years ago. In addition to nuclear
holocaust, computers now have interconnected the nations of the world to the point that when one or
more nations experience financial distress, the whole house of financial
cards will collapse. And, in the wake of
global economic collapse, riots, strikes, homelessness and pandemonium
will increase, leading to tent cities and gangs of marauders. Once of door
of prophecy has been opened, it cannot be shut. The world will never be
the same.
